The Mullardoch Round

The Mullardoch Round is a demanding and remote mountain circuit in the northwest Highlands of Scotland. It encompasses 12 Munros around Loch Mullardoch, offering a true test of endurance and navigation skills.

Distance and Elevation: The route spans about 58 kilometers (36 miles) with a total elevation gain of approximately 4,572 meters (15,000 ft).

Time Required: Completing the round typically takes around 20 to 24 hours, though some hikers may opt to spread it over 2-3 days. The fastest known time for completing the Mullardoch Round is by Lochaber hill runner Finlay Wild in an incredible time of 7:40:26, on the 6th August 2020

Terrain: This route is known for its rugged and isolated nature, apart from the odd spring and burn for water there are no amenities available along the way. Hikers need to be fully self-sufficient, carrying all necessary gear and supplies. Paths – take note, although well defined between the peaks, there are large sections of pathless boggy terrain on this route, see virtual tour.

Starting Point: The Mullardoch Round begins at the small car park next to the Mullardoch Dam, which is accessible via a narrow single-track road through Glen Cannich.

Notable Peaks: Key Munros on this route include the highest on the South side Carn Eighe and Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan (the furthest out Munro) The big climb from Gobh-alltan upto An Socach on the north side then onto Sgurr  na Lapaich and An Riabhachan.

This route is ideal for experienced hikers and hill runners seeking a challenging and rewarding experience in one of Scotland’s most beautiful and untouched landscapes.

Toll Creagach – Altitude: 1054 metres

 Tom a’ Chòinich – Altitude: 1112 metres

Càrn Eige – Altitude: 1183 metres

Fhionnlaidh – Altitude: 1005 metres

Mam Sodhai Altitude: 1181 metres

 An Socach -Altitude: 921 metres

Sgùrr nan Ceathreamhnan – Altitude: 1151 metres

Mullach na Dheiragain – Altitude: 982 metres

An Socach – (‘The Snout’) – Altitude: 1069 metres

An Riabhachan – (‘The Brindled One’) – Altitude: 1129 metres

Sgùrr na Lapaich – (‘Peak of the Bog’) – Altitude: 1150 metres

Càrn nan Gobhar – (‘Hill of the Goats’) – Altitude: 992 metres
