The Saddle and Sgùrr na Sgìne
High above Glen Shiel, the twin summits of The Saddle and Sgùrr na Sgìne form one of the most dramatic mountain pairings in the Highlands. The Saddle, at 1011 metres, is famed for its sharp twin ridges known as the Forcan Ridge — a classic scramble that gives the mountain its distinctive profile and reputation as one of Scotland’s finest climbs. Its Gaelic name, An Dìollaid, means “the saddle,” perfectly describing the dip between its twin peaks.
Beside it rises Sgùrr na Sgìne, the peak of the knife, a rugged Munro of 946 metres whose serrated ridges and steep slopes live up to its name. Together, these mountains dominate the skyline of Glen Shiel, offering a thrilling combination of technical challenge and breathtaking scenery. From their summits, the views sweep across the Five Sisters of Kintail, the South Glen Shiel Ridge, and deep into Knoydart’s wild interior.
